Most cultivars of ivy grow best in bright light, but not direct sun. They tolerate low to medium light, but growth is reduced and variegated forms may turn all green. 
Water weekly during the growing season (spring and summer) and reduce watering in the fall when temperatures drop. It's time to water when the top inch of soil is dry.
